Family, friends, and members of the East Patchogue community are mourning the heartbreaking and untimely loss of 45-year-old Hilton Spokony, who was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday night in North Patchogue, New York.
According to Suffolk County police, the crash occurred at approximately 10:10 p.m. at the intersection of Waverly Avenue and Buckley Road, a busy roadway that connects several residential and commercial areas in the region.
Investigators said Meredith Hill, 79, of East Patchogue, was driving southbound on Waverly Avenue and attempting to turn left onto eastbound Buckley Road when her vehicle collided with a northbound 2016 Dodge Ram driven by Michael Aulivola, 55, of Holtsville.
Authorities confirmed that Hilton Spokony was a passenger in Hill’s vehicle at the time of the collision. The impact caused severe injuries, and emergency responders quickly arrived on scene and transported him to NYU Langone Hospital – Suffolk in Patchogue. Despite all medical efforts to save him, he was sadly pronounced dead at the hospital.
Hill was also transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with injuries described by officials as non-life-threatening, while Aulivola was taken to the same facility and treated for minor injuries. Both drivers survived the crash.
The sudden loss of Hilton Spokony has left an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. Family members describe him as a warm-hearted, loyal, and deeply caring individual who meant so much to so many. He was someone who carried kindness with him, valued his relationships, and brought a steady and comforting presence to those around him.
