A tragic two-vehicle crash in Gillette, Wyoming, has claimed the life of Jordan Callender, 32, leaving family, friends, and the community mourning his sudden passing.
The crash happened Wednesday afternoon shortly after 2:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of South Garner Lake Road in a construction zone. According to authorities, Callender was driving a 2021 GMC Sierra southbound on Garner Lake Road when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a red vacuum truck traveling northbound.
Officials said the reason Callender’s vehicle crossed into the opposite lane remains unknown. Deputy Tommie Verhasselt stated that investigators found no indication that Callender applied his brakes before the crash, while evidence showed brake marks from the vacuum truck.
Emergency crews responded quickly after the collision. Police officers were the first to arrive and immediately began attempting life-saving measures. Firefighters later worked to remove Callender from the pickup truck, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Despite the efforts of first responders and medical staff, Jordan Callender was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Campbell County Coroner Paul Wallem.
The driver of the vacuum truck, a 50-year-old man, and a 39-year-old passenger were evaluated at the scene and released. No additional injuries were reported.
The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office is working alongside the Wyoming Highway Patrol and the Wyoming Department of Transportation as they continue investigating the crash. Authorities are reviewing evidence and working to determine the events that led to the fatal collision.
