According to the Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred on La. 42 near Galvez Baptist Church Road in Prairieville. Investigators said Mendoza was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10 eastbound on La. 42 when he was unable to negotiate a right-hand curve. The vehicle left the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck an embankment.
Troopers reported that Mendoza was improperly restrained at the time of the crash, which resulted in him being partially ejected from the vehicle during the impact.
