The City of Decatur is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Chris Seal, a longtime Parks and Recreation Department employee who died after suffering critical injuries while responding to storm damage Sunday night.
According to city officials, Seal and another city employee were working to clear a fallen tree limb from the roadway near the intersection of Fourth Avenue Northwest and Third Street Northwest when a second limb fell and struck them.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Seal for medical treatment. Despite efforts to save him, he later died from his injuries.
Seal dedicated 21 years of service to the City of Decatur and its residents, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and dedication to the community he served.
“Chris was a valued member of our City family who dedicated more than two decades of his life to serving this community,” Mayor Kent Lawrence said. “We are heartbroken by his loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and coworkers.”
City officials said Seal’s death has deeply affected the entire organization, especially the colleagues who worked alongside him every day.
The City of Decatur is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident and said additional information will be released when appropriate.
