Two women from Corpus Christi were killed following a tragic two-vehicle crash in Burleson County Sunday afternoon.
The victims were identified as Clarissa Nunez, 43, and Diamantina Martinez, 68, both of Corpus Christi, whose lives were lost in the collision at the intersection of State Highway 36 and FM 60.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened at approximately 2:15 p.m. Authorities said Nunez was driving a 2014 Kia Optima and attempting to turn left from FM 60 when the vehicle was struck by a northbound 2020 Ford F-250 traveling on SH 36.
The force of the impact caused fatal injuries to both Nunez and Martinez, and they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two children who were traveling inside the Kia were seriously injured in the crash. An 8-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy were transported to McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple for treatment.
The driver of the Ford pickup and two passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to St. Joseph Health in Bryan for medical care.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities continue working to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.
