With profound sadness and heavy hearts, family, friends, and members of the Jarreau community are grieving the heartbreaking loss of Kelly Downey, 41, whose life ended following a tragic single-vehicle crash on Scenic Highway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, early Saturday morning.
Kelly’s unexpected passing has left a deep void in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for the memories he created, the relationships he built, and the moments he shared with family, friends, and loved ones throughout his life.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. on July 18 on Scenic Highway (Highway 61), south of LA 964. Authorities said Kelly was driving a 2003 Honda Accord northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway, entered the median, struck a concrete embankment, and caught fire.
Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene.
Due to the severity of the crash, investigators were unable to determine whether Kelly was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. Authorities said impairment remains unknown, and a routine toxicology sample was collected as part of the ongoing investigation.
