Two Killed, Child Seriously Injured in Head-On Crash in Lubbock County

Two people were killed and a 6-year-old boy was seriously injured in a head-on collision Thursday morning on FM 1585, according to authorities.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:34 a.m. at the intersection of FM 1585 and County Road 1100.

Investigators said an SUV driven by Joseph Ellis, 49, was traveling eastbound on FM 1585 when, for reasons still unknown, it crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming pickup truck.

Authorities confirmed that Ellis and his passenger, Gina Ganaway, 49, were both pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of the impact.

A 6-year-old boy who was also inside the SUV suffered serious injuries and was transported to University Medical Center Lubbock for emergency treatment.

The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Officials said the crash remains under active investigation as authorities continue working to determine what caused the SUV to drift into oncoming traffic.

The tragic collision has left families grieving and a young child hospitalized as investigators piece together the moments leading up to the crash.
