BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The Bentonville Police Department is investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a man fatally shot his mother before turning the gun on himself inside a home early Thursday morning.
According to a news release issued June 12, officers were initially called to conduct a welfare check at a residence on Holly Drive at approximately 1:54 a.m. on June 11.
When officers entered the home, they discovered two individuals deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators later determined that 22-year-old Jaden Colby Howard shot and killed his mother, 44-year-old Jennifer L. Howard, before taking his own life, according to police.
Authorities said the evidence gathered so far indicates the incident was contained within the residence and that no other individuals are believed to have been involved. Police also confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The Bentonville Police Department said detectives remain actively involved in the investigation as they work to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. Officials have not yet released additional details regarding a possible motive.
The names of the deceased were released following notification of next of kin.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that the case remains open and under review as standard investigative procedures continue.
