A deadly road-rage incident in Pittsburgh’s West End ended with the fatal shooting of Dana Faulk Wednesday night, according to police.
Authorities said the incident began shortly after 9 p.m. at the intersection of West Carson Street and Corliss Street when an argument reportedly started between two drivers waiting at a traffic light.
According to a criminal complaint, a man later identified as 41-year-old Joel Ingram became upset with the driver of a Nissan Xterra in front of him, allegedly yelling at the driver to “move up” while they waited to turn left onto Corliss Street.
A passenger inside the Xterra told investigators that the driver, identified as Dana Faulk, appeared confused by Ingram’s actions, and an argument followed between the two drivers from inside their vehicles. The witness said Ingram made a statement before both vehicles proceeded through the Corliss Street Tunnel.
Police said witnesses reported that Ingram followed the Xterra before pulling alongside the vehicle and firing two shots through his open passenger-side window into the driver’s side of Faulk’s SUV.
Following the shooting, Faulk lost control of the vehicle, which traveled onto the sidewalk near Chartiers Avenue and the Sheraden Park and Ride. Ingram continued driving away from the scene, according to investigators.
Police said multiple witnesses described similar details of the incident, and surveillance footage captured the vehicles traveling through the area before and after the shooting. Investigators said video showed the driver of a black Kia SUV yelling at the Nissan before both vehicles turned onto Corliss Street, followed by the Kia pulling alongside the Nissan at a high rate of speed.
Authorities with the Real Time Crime Center used city surveillance cameras and license plate readers to track the Kia through the West End and toward Route 65 and Marshall Avenue. Investigators later located Ingram and the vehicle at a gas station before stopping him as he drove onto Kennedy Avenue on the North Side.
Police said Ingram declined to speak with detectives.
Ingram has been charged with homicide and carrying a firearm without a license. Court records did not list an attorney or a preliminary hearing date as of Thursday afternoon.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue reviewing evidence surrounding the fatal shooting. The death of Dana Faulk has left family, friends, and members of the Pittsburgh community grieving as they await further answers.
